KIRK PRICE

Director

Image

Kirk Price is a bible believing Christian, and a member of the great Grants Town Seventh Day Adventist Church. He loves young people and has committed his life in service to God through youth ministry and music. Director Price takes pride in helping young men and women to make a difference in their communities and among their peers.

While in high school, Director Price would often hear people bragging about other youth bands and this motivated him, as he made a promise right there and then, that not only would he make sure his church has a band but that his church band would be the best youth band on the island of New Providence.

In 1988 Director Price began the process of making his high school dream a reality, when he became the leader of the SBC Pathfinder Band, under then Youth Director Pastor Paul A. Scavella.

Director Price enjoys playing his tenor saxophone, performing with the band and socializing with the young people. He continues to dedicate his service by providing bus transportation for band members to and from practices and performances. His goal is to encourage as many young people as he could to choose an instrument and learn to play it. He believes that although it may be difficult at first, with perseverance and commitment to the learning process you will succeed.

Director Price has devoted more than 30 years to the development of the SBC Pathfinder Band. He is motivated to continue this ministry by the encouraging words of parents and students alike. He is also encouraged by many current and former band members who have shown exceptional leadership skills and continue to make positive contributions in their respective careers.

According to Director Price, “Music is one of the most beautiful things God has ever created”
His favorite Bible text is John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believes in Him, shall not perish but have everlasting life”.

Harvey Braithwaite

Chairman, Band Support Committee

Image

Harvey Braithwaite has always been fascinated with music and from a very young age was involved in singing. He sang in many choirs and has been the leader of several singing groups over the years, and although he loves to hear the sweet sounds of a marching band, he was never able to play an instrument.

In January 2013, Harvey became involved with the SBC Pathfinder Band through his son, Jordan who became a member that year. His relationship with the band grew to the point that wherever you see the band, Harvey was there.

Through this relationship, Harvey was able to get a better view of the great work being done by the Band Director, Mr. Kirk Price. His love for the young people and his dedication to the band and its success was unmeasurable. After listening to his stories of how difficult it got sometimes and how sometimes he felt like giving up, but when he thinks about the young people he just couldn’t, Harvey was inspired to lend a helping hand.

Having worked with young people for many years in sports, such as Basketball, Softball and Volleyball, both as a player and a coach, it was only natural that God would find another way for Harvey to continue assisting in molding the lives of the youths.

In January 2018, after much prayer, Harvey along with Director Price began the process of identifying interested parents of band members to form the SBC Pathfinder Band Support Committee of which he is the Chairman. Through the leadership of the Band Heads and the Support Committee, the band is now on road to fulfilling its mandate of ministry for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through music.

Harvey’s favorite Bible text is Proverbs 3 :5, 6 “Trust in the LORD with all your heart; and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your path”.

Tammy McPhee Miller is and artisan and a vocalist in her own rights. She loves to sing and minister to others through songs. Being a part of, and spearheading many choirs and praise teams, her love for music is beyond measure. Having taught the lower division Sabbath School and Children’s Ministry for some twenty-three (23) years, along with her passion for craft, Tammy’s love for young people has grown.
Her daughter, Tarejh joined the SBC Pathfinder Band in the year 2013 and this inspired Tammy to become more involved with the band, as a parent and mentor to the young people. Because of her love for the band, Tammy was present at every band event and practices. She soon realized that she was not only a parent, but a mentor and “Mom” as she is affectionately called.
Because of her commitment to the band and her assistance in providing positive ideas, Tammy was asked to be a member of the SBC Pathfinder Band Support Committee, which she willingly consented. She now uses her administrative skills to assist with keeping the band organized, especially when preparing for special events.
Tammy’s favorite quote is “Lord help me not to complain, but to give thanks”, and her favorite scripture is Romans 8:38-39 “38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”.

Crystal Colebrooke

Band Member

Image

Crystal Colebrooke has been a member of the SBC Pathfinder Band for the past 6 years. She plays the flute and is the section leader. She believes that the flute is one of the sweetest instruments in entire band.
Her passion for music is endless, as music is a part of her daily life. It started at a very early age growing up and watching her big brother, “Cadero” (who is also a member of the band) put on his Pathfinder band uniform with such pride she longed for the day when she would be able to do the same.
After joining the band, Crystal soon realized that it was not as easy as she thought. It required discipline, dedication and determination. After making the necessary adjustments, she feels a sense of pride every time she sees the Band Director raise the Mace in front of the band, because she knows that they are about to bring some joy to the lives of others through their music. Just to see the children running on the side of her to hear her play and with a smile on their faces as they say, “I would like to play that instrument too” really makes her happy.

As section leader Crystal sees each member of her section as family and they strive to help each other to make their section stronger.

Her favorite bible text is “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13)

Image

MEMBER'S BIO

Roderick Rolle

Section Leader

Image

Roderick Rolle’s involvement with the SBC Pathfinder Band began eleven years ago when his son, Raynard joined the band as a beginner in the trumpet section. As a result, of the foundation that was built by the band Raynard is now a Music Major at The University of The Bahamas. His two daughters Nikita and Robyn, who play in the clarinet section, have also benefited tremendously from what they have been taught in the band.

Roderick’s only intention was to be a supportive parent of the band. He found himself there at every rehearsal and performance, and even ended up taking his first Family Island trip with the band to South Andros. He took pleasure in taking pictures and videos, while looking out for Director Prices’ son Justin, who at the time was too young to become a member.

A few months later, during a practice at Bahamas Academy, Director Price approached him with an invitation, which he never expected. Because he was such an avid supporter, he was invited to join the band and that an instrument would be provided for him to play. Before he fully knew what was happening, and to the complete surprise of many, (especially his wife and children), he was on parade as a cymbal player. His initial sense of uncertainty evaporated after he received the support of the entire band and a nod of approval and confidence from Cordero Price. He was even crowned “Cymbal Daddy” by Rashawn Armbrister, because he was the oldest active member to join the band.

Ever since that day, he has been fulfilling a promise which he made to Director Price, of bringing new members to join the band each year. New Providence S.D.A. Church now has more than 12 active members who are enrolled for Music Ministry.

Roderick humbly serves as the Section Leader for the dynamic and rhythmic cymbal section. He has been privileged to perform at countless parades in New Providence; as well as Freeport; and most recently in Tallahassee, Florida. Truly, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13
